Founder Michael Kornick is no longer preparing meals at his namesake restaurant
(that falls to chef Erick Simmons), but there’s still a lot of substance beneath the
style of this renowned loft-like spot with the brick walls and massive skylight. The
chic lounge is a popular stop for a pre-dinner drink, while the spacious bi-level
dining room provides a warm atmosphere for a classic contemporary American
menu. Simmons doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel, but we’re not complaining:
His specialties include grilled veal porterhouse with balsamic brown butter, and
bison rib eye with a cabernet sauce. The dessert menu offers standbys like crème
brûlée and sorbet, but you’ll be glad to step outside the box for the Cake & Shake,
which features layers of buttermilk chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, bittersweet
chocolate pavé and a vanilla malted milkshake. The buzz isn’t as deafening as it
was a few years ago, but scoring a table is ten times easier.
