Lodging Classifications
To help travelers find exactly the features they're looking for, Mobil Travel Guide classifies lodgings by type according to its characteristics. MOBIL STAR-RATED LODGINGS: LIMITED-SERVICE HOTEL A limited-service hotel is traditionally a Mobil One-Star or Mobil Two-Star property. At a Mobil One-Star hotel, guests can expect to find a clean, comfortable property that commonly serves a complimentary continental breakfast. A Mobil Two-Star hotel is also clean and comfortable but has expanded amenities, such as a full-service restaurant, business center, and fitness center. These services may have limited staffing and/or restricted hours of use. FULL-SERVICE HOTEL A full-service hotel traditionally enjoys a Mobil Three-Star, Mobil Four-Star, or Mobil Five-Star rating. Guests can expect these hotels to offer at least one full-service restaurant in addition to amenities such as valet parking, luggage assistance, 24-hour room service, concierge service, laundry and/or dry-cleaning services, and turndown service. FULL-SERVICE RESORT A resort is traditionally a full-service hotel that is geared toward recreation and represents a vacation and holiday destination. A resort's guest rooms are typically furnished to accommodate longer stays. The property may offer a full-service spa, golf, tennis, and fitness facilities or other leisure activities. Resorts are expected to offer a full-service restaurant and expanded amenities, such as luggage assistance, room service, meal plans, concierge service, and turndown service. FULL-SERVICE INN An inn is traditionally a Mobil Three-Star, Mobil Four-Star, or Mobil Five-Star property. Inns are similar to bed-and-breakfasts (see below) but offer a wider range of services, most significantly a full-service restaurant that serves at least breakfast and dinner.
SPECIALTY LODGINGS: Mobil Travel Guide recognizes the individualized nature of many different types of lodging establishments, such as bed-and-breakfasts, limited service inns, guest ranches and other unique hotel properties. For that reason, we have chosen to place our stamp of approval on the properties that fall into this category in lieu of applying our traditional Mobil One – Five Star rating. BED-AND-BREAKFASTS A bed-and-breakfast (B&B) is traditionally an owner-occupied home or residence found in a residential area or vacation destination. It may be a structure of historic significance. Rooms are often individually decorated, but telephones, televisions, and private bathrooms may not be available in every room. A B&B typically serves only breakfast to its overnight guests, which is included in the room rate. Cocktails and refreshments may be served in the late afternoon or evening. GUEST RANCHES Guest ranches are traditionally rustic, Western-themed properties that specialize in stays of three or more days. Horseback riding is often a feature, with stables and trails found on the property. Facilities can range from clean, comfortable establishments to more luxurious facilities. |
