Given The White Elephant’s grande-dame status and nearly 100-year history, each guest room at the hotel is unique, but all share the same luxury amenities that make a stay here so comfortable. In the main building, choose from a guest room, guest suite, harborview guest room and harborview guest suite. All rooms have high, plush king beds (though some can split into two twins, if preferred), and both types of suites include sitting rooms with queen sleeper sofas. Harborview suites also feature gas fireplaces. Many rooms and suites have a private deck or patio — though there are always plenty of lounges perched on The White Elephant’s waterfront lawn, too. All around, the décor is classic and mostly neutral — white duvets, brown leather headboards and white plantation shutters are accented with plaid and floral fabrics.
Though its design reflects its history, the luxury hotel is fully updated with renovated bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi throughout — and that extends to its 11 garden cottages. These Nantucket shingle-style accommodations, available in one-, two- and three-bedroom configurations, are located next to the main hotel around a beautifully landscaped and impossibly green lawn. The décor in most of these original buildings is more whimsical and brightly colored than in the main building, though there are four newer two-bedroom cottages that reflect the more modern style found in the inn.
The last room options at the Nantucket hotel are its lofts. The White Elephant operates two luxury downtown accommodations, both a few blocks away: a 3,000-square-foot loft at 1 Easy Street and a 2,500-square-foot stunner at 32 Main Street. Both are three-bedroom residences featuring a living and dining room, along with a gourmet kitchen. The Easy Street property also comes with the use of a BMW X5 sports activity vehicle — parking space included, of course. For its part, 32 Main Street, which opened during the summer of 2014, boasts 50-foot picture windows overlooking the quaint cobblestones of the town's most popular stretch.
