The White Elephant is a seasonal Nantucket hotel, open from mid-April to mid-December (though only open on weekends in November). Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, so that’s when you’ll find the most action on the island, along with the thickest crowds. June can be a lovely time to visit — you’ll likely catch some sun before the rest of the summer crew arrives. Warm weather is also known to linger into fall here, and a bevy of festivals have caught on. If you visit in September or October, you can discover The Nantucket Project — which draws speakers like Mikhail Gorbachev, Chris Matthews and Eve Ensler to The White Elephant, the host hotel — along with the annual Cranberry Festival and Fall Restaurant Week. And every year, two weekends after Thanksgiving, the Christmas Stroll unfolds on Nantucket. On the last weekend before the luxury hotel closes for winter, visitors delight in town carolers, a Christmas market, a tour of homes and the Festival of Trees at the Whaling Museum. As long as The White Elephant is open, there really isn’t a bad time to be there.
