As you make your way to The Meritage Resort and Spa just outside the town of Napa, you’ll get a glimpse of the surrounding hills covered with vineyards, and most notably, the town's iconic Grape Crusher statue. The Meritage Resort creates a sense of its place in wine country that starts with elaborate metal gates out front with cutouts of a man working an old-fashioned wine press. The exterior of the hotel is painted a deep gold with a long pergola supported by white Doric columns and rounded turrets clad in slate that evoke Tuscany. But the most scenic spot in the hotel is the central courtyard with the deep blue pool surrounded by cabanas, fountains and statues. That’s the best place to see the back hillside planted in grapevines. Just beyond the pool is where you’ll also find the Estate Cave that's home to the Trinitas Cellars tasting room and Spa Terra, with its 12 treatment rooms.
The resort spreads its 322 rooms between two buildings that offer modern amenities and soothing neutral color schemes. You could spend all your time on the property, since there’s a café offering breakfast and lunch; an ultra-lounge where you can enjoy a burger and cocktail as well as a game of pool or bowling; and a fine-dining restaurant called Siena that serves Italian-influenced fare in the evening. But Napa is all about exploring, and The Meritage Resort and Spa makes a comfortable home away from home.
