Farm-inspired wellness with vineyard views

12 Treatment Rooms

Carneros Resort and Spa sits on a beautiful sprawling property in Napa Valley and its Spa at Carneros is located at the very top of the grounds, overlooking the adults-only infinity pool and lush grape vines that cover the nearby landscape.

At first glance, one could mistake the spa for a chic barn. The shape of the building is reminiscent of those that house farm animals, but with sleek gray paint and bright white shutters.

Although the lobby is small, it’s cozy with friendly attendants and a variety of clothing by Beyond Yoga and a wide array of skincare products. Shop for luxe beauty enhancers like EmerginC Swift Lift Peptide Firming Serum, Comfort Zone Tranquility Body Lotion and Body Bliss Turquoise Sage Mountain Arnica Body Oil.

Spa at Carneros focuses on healing the mind, body and soul through natural treatments with organic ingredients. The setting is tranquil and upon arrival, it’s easy to feel calm and cared for.

Our Inspector’s Highlights

• Many treatments are farm-to-facial and include ingredients that are grown in the resort’s garden or are indigenous to the region.

• As the local flora changes with the seasons, so do the services. You’ll be able to book a different type of scrub in summer than the one you would book in winter.

• The therapists are informed, welcoming and adjust the treatment — be it a massage, body polish or revitalizing facial — to your liking, always checking in to make sure the pressure and technique is just right.

• With nine indoor suites and three outdoor treatment rooms, you have the option of a traditional spa experience or to enjoy your massage in the California sunshine.

• The spa services include extensive nail therapy, waxing and in-cottage blowouts and makeup application.

Things to Know

• If your cottage is far from the Napa spa, reach out to the front desk and request that one of the resort’s on-call SUVs picks you up and delivers you to your appointment.

• Often times at a hotel, the spa is connected to the gym. This isn’t the case with Carneros, where the spa and fitness center are on opposite ends of the property.

• The spa offers day passes for guests who aren’t staying at the hotel — Monday through Thursday during non-peak times. A resort fee of $50 per person and minimum of $550 in services (between two people) provides access to a cottage from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., spa appointments and entry to the pools and fitness center.

• When the resort was remodeled in 2016, the spa was left as is. It will undergo a transformation beginning later this year, with the ground breaking roughly scheduled for November 2017.

The Treatments

• The Forager Massage is a 75- or 105-minute experience that begins with the blending of your own custom botanical oil, like a soothing lavender with a hint of orange. Then head to the treatment room for an aromatherapy massage that incorporates your new signature scent.

• The Ginger-Lime Sugar Glow is a natural brightening treatment that involves a fragrant citrus-kombucha body wash, ginger-lime scrub and essential oil rub.

• The California Poppy Brightening Facial combines organic ingredients to treat uneven skin tone, dehydration and breakouts. The use of blue poppy seeds gently detoxifies and removes dead cells, resulting in more supple and younger-looking skin.

• Other treatments that highlight the spa’s farm-to-facial vibe involve honey, olive, rosemary, quince, fig and lemon balm — all grown nearby. Who wouldn’t want a nourishing manicure and pedicure that features quince extract, protective honey distillate and goat milk?

The Facilities

• The women’s changing area is intimate. Each guest gets a long skinny white metal locker, a plush robe and rubber slides.

• Beyond the changing room there is a bathroom area with several sinks and toiletries, stacked towels, showers, a warming sauna and a eucalyptus steam room.

• The communal relaxation lounge has oversized chairs, an inviting balcony with a view of a nearby pond and plenty of glossy magazines.

• The hilltop adults-only infinity pool provides a tranquil spot to take in the stunning vistas of the surrounding vineyards and mountains.
