Natchez, named for a Native American tribe, is also a manufacturing town with a history of trapping, trading, hunting, and farming. French, Spanish, English, Confederate, and US flags have flown over this town, one of the oldest in the Mississippi Valley. Vestiges of the Spanish influence can still be seen along South Wall Street, near Washington Street, a charming neighborhood once restricted to the Spanish dons. The city's modern stores and buildings serve to emphasize how lovingly the citizens of Natchez have preserved their past.
