JW Marriott Essex House New York in Midtown Manhattan combines modern amenities with traditional elegance and style. Open since 1931, the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hotel underwent a $90 million refurbishment in 2007 that restored and updated the interior to reflect the most up-to-date technology while simultaneously maintaining its Art Deco roots. The hotel itself is a work of art, with gilded doors, rich wood paneling and stunning photographs of Central Park around every corner. In fact, New York-inspired artwork is sprinkled throughout the entire hotel, all handpicked by an in-house curator who was previously on staff. With 509 guest rooms, the luxury New York City hotel is anything but cookie-cutter — each room features a unique layout, and, as a result, varied décor. Signature to most rooms is the well-organized cruise-ship-inspired cabinetry, large mirrors and ample space. Headboards are bright and colorful works of art, surrounded by an in-room palette of beige and gold. During your visit, make sure to take a peek inside South Gate, the only onsite restaurant. It’s a design masterpiece, featuring a glass-and-mirrored interior that ensures privacy, too. While the décor is eye-catching and grand, it pales in comparison to the opulent views of Central Park seen from most rooms.
