A quintessential New York experience

Residing in a heritage building with aristocratic roots, The Quin offers the quintessential New York experience. Bergdorf Goodman and Tiffany are on speed dial, it’s a block away from Central Park and it expertly immerses you into the character of the city, fusing downtown cool with uptown glamour.

Luminaries from the worlds of music, art and fashion (from Georgia O’Keeffe to pianist and first prime minister of Poland Jan Paderewski) have checked into the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel over the years, both in its original form as The Buckingham (which opened in the 1920s), and as The Quin, which, after a huge transformation, reopened its doors in 2013.

The atmosphere is elegant and luxurious, and although the design and the amenities are contemporary, some of the building’s classical features have been preserved, providing a glimpse into the metropolis from a bygone era.

Our Inspector’s Highlights

• The QA desk should be your first stop. The concierge here offers tailored cultural experiences, including private gallery tours, hard-to-get bookings at coveted restaurants and individualized guides that are perfect for first-time visitors to New York.

• Culture vultures will love the Quin Arts program, which presents a rotation of eclectic multimedia exhibitions throughout the New York City hotel.

• There are luxe Duxiana beds in each of the rooms dressed with lush Sferra Venetian Linens, guaranteeing a comfortable night’s sleep.

• The Quin exudes a distinct intimate, boutique vibe. Rest assured that you won’t be treated as just another transaction.

• Perched on the top three floors of The Quin, the stylish penthouse feels residential. It has an incredible balcony overlooking Sixth Avenue and Central Park and is great for entertaining.

Things to Know

• If you’re trying to get a cab downtown, it’s generally best to walk along to Seventh Avenue, which has a one-way stream of traffic flowing downtown (as opposed to Sixth, which flows up to Central Park).

• Request a corner room on a high level for the best light and classic postcard views of Manhattan: yellow cabs, concrete skyscrapers and hustle on the streets at all hours.

• Need to get ready for a night out? Take advantage of the luxury in-room styling services from Nomi Beauty and Bergdorf Goodman.

The Rooms

• The décor is modern and relatively neutral with a masculine edge — everything looks sleek and clean.

• Nespresso machines and coffee pods are in every room, so you can enjoy your caffeine hit before heading down to breakfast at the hotel’s retro Wayfarer, an American grill.

• Each room features an Evolve Bedside Touchscreen Tablet, so you can adjust the lighting, temperature and music from the comfort of your bed.

• Elegant and bright bathrooms with large mirrors, marble sinks and enormous glass-enclosed showers complete the package.

• You’ll also enjoy plenty of in-room technology — including a huge Samsung LED TV, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system for your iPod and a tablet to handle lighting, temperature and room service.

Nearby Attractions

• Central Park is a block away from The Quin, so you can easily venture out for a morning run.  If you’re visiting in the winter, head over to the ice-skating rink at the southern edge of the park.

• The Museum of Modern Art, one of the city’s most celebrated art institutions, is only a five-minute walk away. Other standout museums like The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim and the American Museum of Natural History are accessible by foot within half an hour.

• Shop the iconic boutiques along Fifth Avenue — Chanel, Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuitton are all within walking distance.

• Rockefeller Center sits a few blocks south and is the best place to view the city from above, especially at Christmastime.

• Live like a classic New Yorker and take in a jazz concert at Carnegie Hall, which is just across the road.
