When you step into Mandarin Oriental, New York’s Asiate, you may recognize the soundtrack; it is the same contemporary Asian music that the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel plays in its lobby. The Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star restaurant also has a lively hum to it, thanks to the constant activity of hotel guests and chatty businessmen and women meeting over lunch. You’ll find a fair amount of distance between the tables, though, so the restaurant itself leads to hushed, quieter voices. Since there’s no bar for rowdy crowds within the restaurant, Asiate typically doesn’t get loud, but instead offers an intimate atmosphere for small groups and couples.
