The wine director and sommelier at chef David Bouley’s Brushstroke is Seju Yang. A Japanese native, Yang moved to the United States seven years ago to study music composition, taking on the job of sake sommelier at Midtown’s Sakegura to pay the bills. Sensing the need to broaden his knowledge base beyond the liquor, Yang dived in to wines, becoming the sommelier at East Village haunt Kyo-Ya, followed by 15 East. The Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star restaurant’s expertly curated wine list is the first Yang has devised on his own, and the sommelier exudes an obvious passion for his work and is eager to help you enjoy the perfect wine or sake pairings.
