A stylish Swiss sanctuary in Manhattan

10 Treatment Rooms

L. Raphael Beauty Spa reflects Four Seasons Hotel New York’s signature style with unobtrusive-yet-attentive staff and a penchant for luxurious details. The quiet space located beneath the hotel lobby provides services by the renowned Swiss skin-care brand, which made the Four Seasons hotel its first location in the United States in 2014. It is a destination for New Yorkers and hotel guests looking for effective anti-aging treatments and traditional beauty services in serene, away-from-it-all surroundings.

The Vibe

Descend into the spa’s discreet location, where staff welcomes you into the peaceful space, seemingly miles away from the city’s chaos above. The reception area is clad in light beiges and chocolate browns, calming silvers and bright orange accents representing the grounding of the earth, the purity of the moonlight and the radiance of the sun. Handmade European rugs warm cool marble floors and rotating artwork curated by Artvera (a Swiss gallery) adorns the walls.

The 4,500-square-foot spa — very spacious by Manhattan standards — has 10 treatment rooms including two luxe couples suites. The spa also offers a full-service hair salon, two nail stations and makeup services. (During off-hours after 8 p.m. and before 8 a.m., treatments are available in guest rooms.) Before and after treatments, unwind in a peaceful relaxation room where there is always fresh fruit, fruit-infused water, light snacks and an assortment of organic tea.

The Treatments

L. Raphael’s philosophy incorporates a holistic approach to a well-rounded and healthy lifestyle. A comprehensive range of healing treatments available here aims to invigorate and restore peace. The New York City spa’s signature offerings focus on technologically-advanced beauty services, such as the Oxy-Peel Anti-Aging Treatment, which features the brand’s LEC-40 Complex and the Oxy-Tech II machine — it delivers active ingredients deeper into skin than a typical topical application would allow.

And you can bet there are some real results to be had with the spa’s line of Oxy-Peel treatments for 50- to 60-minute services. Optimize results at home with the brand’s haute couture products available for purchase in the spa’s retail boutique.

Massages are decadent here, too. We’re smitten with the Anti-Jet Lag and Energy Restoring Massage with aromatherapeutic oils. First you’ll get an invigorating massage performed with carrot seed oil to drain the lymphatic system, which is followed by a ultra-soothing rubdown with a blend of signature oils.

The Dream Catcher Massage is pretty tempting as well, but may be best to have performed in-room — it’s a head, neck and scalp massage designed to rid your body of tension so you can drift into a dream-like state of relaxation.

More traditional beauty services abound, including manis and pedis, haircuts and colors, makeup and more. The Woman on the Go package is a comprehensive pack of treatments that are finished in an hour flat — it includes a manicure, shampoo, blow-dry, face exfoliant and moisturizer and a detox juice.

The Gym

Spa guests can also use the hotel’s fitness center, which is available 24/7 to accommodate a true Manhattan lifestyle. The gym features all-new state-of-the-art equipment by Technogym. Saunas and steam rooms are located in both men and women’s locker rooms. Workout attire and shoes are available upon request, as are personal trainers.
