When you first arrive at NoMI, you have to go through a
glass-encased wine “cellar” and take several turns before
entering the main dining room. It’s almost as if they want
to reward you for your efforts—and what a reward it is. The
beautiful space, which offers stunning views of Michigan
Avenue and the Water Tower across the street, matches
chef Christophe David’s cuisine: simple, unpretentious and
elegant. Sushi makes up much of the menu, with à la carte
pieces and larger plates of several rolls offered. David also
presents entrées such as butter-poached lobster, and a duet
of beef with braised prime short rib and roasted Wagyu strip
loin. After your meal, the outdoor garden’s gently pulsing
lounge music, comfortable tables and spectacular view make
a perfect environment for a relaxing after-dinner drink.
