The best shopping in Northwoods Wisconsin is found in artisan boutiques; small, independent shops and galleries that showcase the skills of the painters, sculptors, woodworkers, glassblowers and crafters that make up Wisconsin’s creative class. You’ll find some stores featuring clothing, gifts and housewares, as well as a good number of antique stores, but they’re often overwhelmed by seasonal stores catering to tourists with trinkets and t-shirts. Minocqua is probably the safest bet with a concentration of shops and eateries that span over a couple of walkable blocks downtown. J. Christy’s, Ann Marie’s Fine Coffee and Tea, and Loon Landing Trading Company are noteworthy spots. Look for live oompah music on the outdoor patio at Otto’s Beer and Brat Garden, catch fudge in the making at Dan’s Minocqua Fudge, and linger over lunch lakeside at Minocqua Brewing Company. Wander the Gaslight Square stores and don’t miss the upper level, the 18,000-square-foot home to Gaslight Antiques and Collectibles featuring nearly 140 dealers.
