About Oak Lawn, Illinois:
In 1856, Oak Lawn was a settlement known as Black Oaks Grove. When the Wabash Railroad began to lay tracks through the community in 1879, an agreement was made with the railroad builder to create a permanent village. As a result of this agreement, the new town of Oak Lawn was officially established in 1882.
