The storied Parker House hotel may have just undergone a $30 million renovation,
but the circa-1855 hotel’s main draw is its rich history—it was once the stomping
ground of famed authors (Emerson, Thoreau) and presidents (Franklin D. Roosevelt,
Ulysses S. Grant). Its restaurant, Parker’s, was the birthplace of Boston cream pie
(or, so they claim—either way, it’s tasty) and Parker House dinner rolls, as well as
the spot where JFK held his bachelor party (in the press room). History buffs will
also love its location on the Freedom Trail. The rooms, however, have everything a
21st-century traveler needs, including work desks and flat-screen TVs.
