This town is famous for its 23 miles of scenic beach. Ocean fishing, dunes, swimming, surfing, diving, golf, horseback riding, and camping make the area popular with vacationers. Pismo Beach is also in a growing wine region. It is the last Pacific oceanfront community where autos can still be driven on the beach (access ramps are at two locations along the beach). A more dramatic and rugged coastline is found at Shell Beach, to the north, which has been incorporated into Pismo Beach.
