Despite the trendy thin-crust-pizza spots that have been popping up across Chicago
lately, many still come to the city for chewy, gooey deep-dish pizza. There are many
arguments about whose stuffed pizza is the best, but no matter who’s doing the
rating, Pizzeria Uno is almost always near the top. This standby—which actually
served the world’s first stuffed pizza, back in the 1940s—draws huge crowds, and
it’s not exactly spacious, so either arrive early (the restaurant doesn’t take reservations)
or be prepared for a long wait for a table (which will likely be cramped). But
oh, how it’s worth the wait: The cheese is melty, the tomato sauce is sweet but has a
nice zip of garlic, and the crust is slightly crunchy. You’ll quickly tune out the tourists
that surround you as you dig in.
