Pueblo began as a crossroad for Native Americans, Spaniards, and fur traders. When the Rio Grande Railroad reached here in 1872, Pueblo was the leading center for steel and coal production west of the Mississippi. Today, Pueblo is a major transportation and industrial center; more than half of all goods manufactured in Colorado are produced in Pueblo.
