The buzz around this restaurant is that it’s as good as or better than the French Laundry—
at half the price. It certainly doesn’t disappoint. The restaurant notes that “the dishes are flavorful, fresh and healthy, offering intensity of flavor without heaviness.”
But it’s hard for just a couple bites of anything to be very heavy, isn’t it? (The dishes
are tiny.) They’re not lying, however. The ingredients are magnificent and what chef
Christopher Kostow does with them is awe-inspiring. Choose lobster and sweetbread
with chanterelles, turnip and summer truffle or tea-poached squab with dried cherries,
foie gras and garden radish or heirloom tomato and peach terrine with whipped
ricotta, white balsamic and shiso. Add the careful pairing of Napa Valley wines and
the experience is memorably majestic.
