Peaceful pampering in Salt Lake City
18 Treatment Rooms
The Grand America Hotel itself might be famous for its opulent Italian marble and candy-colored crystal interiors, but the hotel’s Grand Spa is renowned for its peaceful, calm aesthetic and spacious amenities.
Updated in late 2013, the spa is a cool and quiet oasis amidst the hotel’s consistently busy din of business travelers and special events. Pale, warm earth tones; aspen wood, cedar and sandstone; and warm recessed lighting fill the lobby, where receptionists welcome guests and escort them to the appropriate lounge/locker area. The spa is 22,000 square feet and spans multiple stories, accessed by a private elevator that transfers guests from the reception and fitness area (with yoga room, cardio equipment and weights) to the indoor pool or any of the treatment rooms. Guests can also book summer yoga in the courtyard during the city’s glorious warm season.
The third floor of The Grand Spa houses a salon where brides often get final touches for their ceremony or executives get a touch-up on their cuticles with soaks in hammered copper and frosted glass basins. A new feature is a barber station for gentlemen requiring a sudsy straight-razor shave. The men’s area and lounge is darker and earth toned, with comfortable furniture and enough flat-screen TVs to put a sports bar to shame — but they mostly go unwatched, as the massages and other spa treatments are the main attraction.
A total of 18 treatment rooms accommodate men, women and couples, who can gather in a unisex common lounge to sip tea or infused water and nibble on housemade granola made with locally harvested honey. When it’s time for a massage or body wrap, an attendant guides each guest to the updated treatment rooms. Hydraulic beds are temperature controlled for maximum comfort during treatments that range from 30 to 120 minutes each.
The ultimate luxury at the spa is the Grand Spa Suite, located on the hotel’s spa level. Guests who book this suite can enjoy the spa’s amenities right outside of their private entrance or experience in-room treatments in the seating/vanity area. Out of all the rooms at The Grand America Hotel, the setting is singular; it’s the only room decorated with the Zen-like neutral décor of the rest of the spa. Couples and individuals enjoying the suite need not ever leave thanks to 24-hour in-room dining.
