There’s have no shortage of luxury hotels along the Santa Barbara coastline, but Bacara Resort & Spa stands out from the pack for its scenic, lush setting atop a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The resort is large, with over 350 rooms, but they’re divided among several villas, so it feels like you’re staying in a Mediterranean village. We love the Spanish style décor, and that all rooms come with outdoor seating, be it a patio or balcony, and about half the rooms also have fireplaces. Although the adjacent beach can occasionally be slicked with tar, the saltwater pool settings are lovely and overlook the waves, and you’ll find plenty of dining options, from upscale contemporary cuisine at Miró to casual poolside nibbles. We think Bacara is a great weekend getaway, where you can hike and enjoy the natural beauty of the California coast, while also treating yourself to some pampering — a little massage at the spa is always a treat. At Bacara Resort & Spa, you might think you’ve been whisked off to a Spanish seaside retreat, but you’ll still find the cheerful, easygoing atmosphere that defines a California frame of mind.
