Savannah is definitely an outdoor-minded city, with 22 squares and streets made for strolling. Yet, there are plenty of indoor stops you’ll want to make during your visit, such as Jepson Center for the Arts, which houses several exhibits as well as a kids’ interactive area upstairs. Right across the street, you’ll find Jepson’s sister museum, the Telfair Academy, with grand sculptures and two full stories of exhibits that can soak up at least an hour. Nearby Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum doubles as a historic home and harbor for plenty of ships in bottles. Other house museums that should also be must-dos on any itinerary include the Owens-Thomas House, Mercer Williams House, and Flannery O’Connor’s childhood home. Each showcases beautiful Savannah architecture and is decorated with plenty of envy-inducing antiques. Savannah also has several striking churches—the grandest being Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
