Shanghai's sleek sparkler

Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, Shanghai marks Four Seasons’ second outpost in Shanghai; the first sits on the western side of the Huangpu River, in Puxi. There’s no confusing the two, though; Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, Shanghai is quite different from its sister hotel. The 55-story Pudong hotel is sleek and sparkling, a 21st-century glass-and-steel tower that blends in with its trio of sky-high neighbors — Shanghai World Financial Center, Jinmao Tower and Shanghai Tower.

Head inside and you’ll find the Pudong hotel’s gleaming, quiet lobby is a world away from the busy boulevard outside. Take a seat on the lobby’s plush beige and gray armchairs and sofas and peruse the coffee-table books stacked next to bright floral arrangements. Leading from the lobby to the second floor is an elegant double-height spiral staircase that’s perfect for grand wedding photos.

The luxury hotel’s 187 spacious, well-appointed guest rooms have a similar color scheme — neutral beige and gray tones with sharp red accent pillows and reading lamps that seamlessly blend Art Deco and chinoiserie. Four Seasons is home to a world-class spa, state-of-the-art fitness center and a top-floor infinity pool with sweeping views of the surrounding skyscrapers. Within the hotel, you will find two restaurants — Camelia, which serves French-influenced Western food, and Shang-Xi, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant. If you want to explore Pudong, the hotel is a short walk from Dongchang Road metro station on line 2 and within walking distance of IFC and Super Brand malls, both of which are full of restaurants and shops.
