The 187 guest rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, Shanghai are chic and well appointed with luxe materials such as stingray leather, ebony wood and marble. Take a seat on the ergonomic desk chair, on the ultra-plush bed or on the cushy upholstered bench at the end of the bed. You’ll want to sit down to check out all of the technology available in the room, including wired and wireless Internet access, satellite television, iPod docking stations and, unique to the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel, iPad Minis. Use the iPads to order room service, extra bath products and maintenance services, and you are welcome to take them out into the public spaces of the luxury hotel for continued use on the Four Seasons’ Wi-Fi network.
If you can pull yourself away from the iPads, you’ll be transfixed by the view — the Shanghai hotel offers vistas from every room. The best views are from the junior suites, all corner rooms. On one side you’ll see a rainbow of tiny cars crawling along the neighborhood’s busy roads, glittering super-tall skyscrapers standing in the background. On the other side, you’ll see what look like Monopoly houses come to life; they’re rows upon rows of apartment buildings, their roofs a colorful mix of red, orange and blue.
Elsewhere in the room, the well-proportioned bathrooms have separate shower and toilet cubicles, double sinks and Lorenzo Villoresi Firenze bath products whose bright red bottles stand out on the marble countertops.
