The gym at Les Suites Orient, Bund Shanghai, isn’t the typical high-octane workout environment — instead, guests exercise on parquet flooring among beds of river stones. Wood paneling, white walls and mid-century modern furniture decorate the gym on the ninth floor of the hotel, with professional grade Cybex equipment divided into cardio, strength training and meditation areas. Assorted river rocks run around the perimeter of the rooms and picture windows let in plenty of natural light, adding a serene feeling to the gym. Three treadmills, two elliptical machines and four exercise bikes are provided, as well as four strength training machines positioned by a wall of mirror panels. A unique asset is the partially enclosed wooden meditation platform with yoga mats and physical therapy balls, allowing guests to catch a few ohms in the morning light before heading down to breakfast.
