Yamazato attracts a clientele comprised of mostly Japanese businesspeople, who are looking for a taste of home and an excellent meal. You’ll find authentic, high-quality cuisine here, but not a whole lot of ambience. The bright blond wood and the attentive and smiling staff means that you’ll have a pleasant dining experience, but there’s not a whole lot of love in the air. The music is basic and the lights are never dimmed low. This is a restaurant for business meetings. If your special someone is a big foodie, they should appreciate the well-crafted dishes at Yamazato. But, in general, if you’re looking to woo, there are other restaurants in Shanghai that might get you further.
