The main draw at the intimate Shanghai Terrace isn’t the
generous menu, with its emphasis on meticulous dim sum
creations, or the elegantly appointed dining room with black
lacquer chairs and daring red trim. No, the best reason to
come here is the outdoor deck, with its stunning view of the
soaring buildings that surround The Peninsula hotel. The
alfresco area provides the perfect place to enjoy chef Thi Ting’s delicious fare, which features a dim sum sampler that
includes spicy beef gyoza, crispy duck taro and vegetable
dumplings. For a more complete meal, you can’t go wrong
with the wok-fried scallops with Asian vegetables, or the
five-spice duck with roasted pine nuts and housemade
hoisin sauce. If your experience with Chinese food is limited
to soggy take-out containers of egg foo yong, prepare for a
genre-redefining experience.
