The antique kimono fabric displayed under glass on the walls at Silks says a lot
about the ambience: classic and elegant. This is a spot for ladies who lunch, power
brokers and guests of the luxe Mandarin Oriental hotel in which the restaurant is
hidden. Gleaming silver, heavy linen, attentive service and a hushed atmosphere
lay claim to tradition. But the Asian-inflected food dreamed up by executive chef
Joshua Nudd is innovative: Curry-dusted scallops share a plate with cauliflower
purée dotted with fried capers and raisins; yellowfin tuna is topped with feta cheese
foam. After dinner, slink into the nearby MO bar for a nightcap or linger at the table
over coffee and petite fours.
