About Simsbury, Connecticut:
Hopmeadow Street, in this characteristic New England village, is so named because hops were grown in the area to supply early distillers. Simsbury's handsome Congregational Church was built in 1830.
After it was founded, Simsbury developed steadily until 1676, when the settlers fled in terror during King Philip's War. Scouts returning three days later and found the settlement in ashes. Soon the village was reconstructed and activity was again stimulated by the discovery of copper at East Granby (then part of Simsbury).
