If you’re looking for a familiar, been-there-done-that meal, then skip chef David Myers’s Sona. Adventurous eaters, though, will be rewarded at this temple to culinary creativity, which clocks in as one of the most cutting-edge eateries in the city. Stark and minimalist with a six-ton granite wine bar at the center of the room, Sona is about both innovation and execution, offering two imaginative degustation menus: the six-course Découverte and the nine-course Spontanée. With either menu (which change frequently), your taste buds will fall in love with dishes such as grilled octopus with chickpea, wild arugula, tomato confit; and Serrano ham and a sashimi of wild snapper with ginger, shiso foam and pickled radishes. What keeps us coming back are the wild desserts, including the smoked-chocolate bar—with spearmint yuzu kosho marshmallow, chocolate dipping sauce and graham crackers, it tastes like a plate of haute s’mores.
