An all-American grill featuring thick-cut steaks and fresh seafood, Shoemakers American Grille is a restaurant inside the Craddock Terry Hotel that’s convenient for business travelers or anyone looking to get an easy meal in a relaxed setting. While it’s more formal than the hotel’s other eatery, Waterstone Pizza, you can still get away with wearing jeans or shorts to dinner. The exposed brick walls, dark leather booths and wood-beam ceiling further give off a vibe that’s friendly and approachable, just like the cuisine.
The menu covers a range of appetizers, such as the warm crab dip and fried oysters topped with a chipotle mayo, as well as salads and soups. Among the entrées, you’ll find everything from a grilled New York strip and a sirloin slathered with béarnaise to blackened salmon and a crab cake served with spicy remoulade. The restaurant tends to have nightly specials, so we’d recommend asking your server about those before making a decision. While there’s a sizeable wine list, opt for a Jefferson Street beer — it’s made onsite in the city’s only microbrewery. And whatever you do, don’t skip the dessert, especially the blackout chocolate cake made with Belgian chocolate — it’s a knockout.
