Spa Nalai

A tranquil hideaway in Midtown Manhattan
Situated on the 25th floor of Park Hyatt New York is its luxurious sanctuary, Spa Nalai. The name Nalai, which means “serenity,” comes from the Lenape Indians, who were the original inhabitants of Manhattan. While you wait for your “treatment artisan” to snag you from the comfy couch or a cozy armchair in The Spa Living Room, a “spa concierge” will be there to offer you a cup of IKKATI brand tea (we loved the Nectar Sun with marigold, papaya, hibiscus, peach and honeybush) and serve a variety of seasonal dried fruit.

With floor-to-ceiling windows in the waiting area, it’s hard to not smile with the beauty of Midtown Manhattan surrounding you. And as folks rush about on the city’s sidewalks, you’re inside unwinding from everyday stresses while savoring snacks like wasabi peas, raw blanched almonds and fresh green apples.
Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Before heading to your spa suite, be sure to peruse the products available for sale, including H. Gillerman Organics’ True Relaxation Muscle Remedy to ease injuries, Natural Rest Travel Remedy to ward off jet lag, Belle Fleur’s luxurious rose oil candles, or ISUN’s restorative Ormus Bath blend featuring Dead Sea salt and frankincense.
  • Upon entering a treatment room at Spa Nalai, your treatment artisan will ask you which type of music you’d like to hear. Choose from sounds like air (harmonic strings), fire (subtle drum movements) and water (H2O rushing over smooth stones).
  • While you’re on the 25th floor, stop by the gym for a workout using Technogym equipment. Expect to see treadmills with touch screens offering music, TV and “outdoor” exercise options alongside weight machines, like the overhead press and more.
  • True relaxation will set in after a couple of laps in the 65-foot pool, where a soothing soundtrack from Carnegie Hall can be heard underwater.
  • After the kinks have all been worked out, put on your robe and walk outside onto the balcony (four of the treatment rooms come with one) to take in the Big Apple’s sights and breathe in some fresh air.
Things to Know
  • Spa treatments are offered to guested ages 16 and older. Younger guests must be accompanied by an adult to be permitted into the glamourous space.
  • In an effort to remove you from the stressors of the outside world, cell phone use is discouraged inside of the spa.
  • Conveniently, and 18 percent gratuity charge is automatically included in the total cost of your service.
The Treatments
  • When it’s time for a spa service at the New York escape, you won’t go wrong with a 60- or 90-minute massage.
  • If you have more time to indulge, try Spa Nalai’s 90-minute Purifying Body Ritual, where you’ll receive an invigorating exfoliation, detoxifying wrap, and cool marble stone massage on the face and scalp. This treatment is ideal for a quick boost or post-travel revival.
  • Other services offered include everything from a facial to the Couples Retreat Package, which provides you and that special someone with full access to the Midtown Manhattan spa’s couples suite. It is here that you both can soak in a private tub, get pampered with treatments and more.
The Facilities
  • Spoil yourself in one of six treatment rooms at Spa Nalai.
  • The 500-square-foot spa suites come with a shower, should you choose to rinse off with Le Labo Tubereuse amenities before or after your treatment.
  • There’s also a vanity area for primping where spider mums, succulents and pear branches placed near the mirror fit in with interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg’s chic aesthetic.
  • You’ll feel at ease with the blue- and gold-striped Alexis Azure stone seen throughout treatment rooms.
  • A cute heart-shaped bowl perfect for placing necklaces and earrings in can be found in the spa suite’s closet, which comes with a couple of drawers for storing other valuables as well.
