Spice Market, the first project from dynamic chef duo Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Gray Kunz, is like something out of the Kasbah—an authentic jewel-toned Moroccan wonderland with raw, color-stained wood panels and benches flown in from India and waitresses decked out in saris and backless silk halter tops. As for the fare, you are in for magic on the plate. Out of the 60-foot-long open kitchen (complete with its own sultry food bar) comes fragrant, exotically spiced, family-style dishes inspired by Morocco and the Far East—satays and summer rolls, dosa and pho, and fragrant pulled-oxtail hot pots with coriander chutney and kumquats. Filled with the most fabulous crowds reclining on stunning banquettes in the amber glow of candles and lanterns, Spice Market is easily a contender for New York’s hottest and tastiest scene.
