The Davenport Hotel and Tower is different from other hotels for several reasons. First, is has a long and storied history. The property first opened in 1914 by Louis Davenport and was a beacon of luxury in the region where special events for dignitaries were commonplace. The hotel closed in 1985 and in 2000 local entrepreneurs Walt and Karen Worthy restored the property from top to bottom before reopening it. The restored features in the Forbes Travel Guide four star property also make it unique. The ornate Victorian-era lobby features marble floors and spectacular gilded woodwork, as well as the original grand front desk. The second story of the lobby features photos and objects from the hotel’s storied history that are fun to browse while visiting.
