St. Barts’ Quai de la République is a dream for shoppers. With brand names such as Hermès, Bulgari, Cartier and Dior lining the street, it’s hard to believe you’re in a remote Caribbean locale. The best shopping — and most diverse — is in Gustavia, the island’s capital. You’ll find those designer goods as well as unique local boutiques where you can pick up chic beach and loungewear perfect for the islands. Look for Lolita Jaca, Calypso, Mademoiselle Hortense, Poupette St. Barth, Victoire and Vanita Rosa (which also stocks haute vintage designer pieces.) Or try your luck at the Saint-Barth Stock Exchange on the far side of the harbor — it’s the island’s answer to outlet shopping, with off-price finds from some top shops.
Next, head to St. Jean where you’ll find boutiques lining the main road. Favorites include Filles des Isles, Couleurs de Province and Lili Belle. Hit up both Black Swan and St. Tropez Kiwi for bathing suits.
Some of the island’s restaurants and hotels have shops that are also worth the visit. There are a fabulous beachwear shops at Cheval Blanc, Le Sereno, Le Guanahani, Tom Beach Hotel and Eden Rock. There’s also a fun shopping nook at the restaurant Bonito. Keep in mind that stores close during the off-season (between June and November), and quite a few close during lunchtime.
