What inspires Andre Fu?

I take in things from my background being someone who was born in Asia [Hong Kong] and also the fact that I spent a good part of my life living in the U.K. There is that juxtaposition of the two cultures that very much cultivated the design language that I have. I guess it’s not specifically East or West. It’s just a language that’s used in a lot of the work that I do.

Since I am working on a good number of cities and locations, I have always intended to reflect on a certain sense of place to engage the guests with a touch of the local culture. Meanwhile, my aesthetics are usually driven by an underlying desire to create places that are calming and comfortable to be in. Throughout the years, I have described myself as an “approach-driven” designer, instead of a “style-driven” designer — I am always looking out for new inspirations to instill into each project to make each and every one unique in its character.
