What are Art Smith’s favorite restaurants?

One of my new favorites is Bantam + Biddy in Atlanta. It has killer gluten-free fried chicken. I don’t have a gluten issue, but I had to try it — it’s excellent. I also love Holeman & Finch [Public House in Atlanta]. I like gastropubs and I think it’s one of the best in America. If you’re squeamish about eating all parts of the animal, it may not be your cup of tea; but if you want a lovely cocktail, it’s great. One of my favorites is the Blitzkrieg Pop — it’s a mix of gin, lemon juice, crème de cacao and Cocchi Americano served on the rocks.

In L.A., Nancy Silverton makes the most incredible pizza in the world at Pizzeria Mozza. When I go in there, every star is there. I also like going over to The Beverly Hills Hotel and eating at the counter — it’s very popular. Spago has been around forever but it’s one my favorites. In New York, I love ABC Kitchen. It’s fantastic. And there’s nothing better than The Café at Chez Panisse upstairs [in Berkeley] — I prefer it to the first floor. La Super-Rica Taqueria in Santa Barbara, Calif. is by far one of the best taco stands in America. You order your taco and they make it by scratch right there — the tortilla and the filling — and they’re just flying out the door. Gramercy Tavern in New York is delicious. Thomas Keller’s Ad Hoc [in Yountville, California] has fabulous fried chicken. It’s cooked to order, and it has a very moist, wonderful texture.
