Carrie Brownstein

Actress, Writer, Musician

Portland

Carrie Brownstein is a writer, actor and co-creator of the Independent Film Channel’s sketch comedy Portlandia. And while the cult hit has won over critics and cable watchers, Brownstein is still probably best known for her other profession — musician. A Led Zeppelin-influenced guitarist who grew up near Seattle, Brownstein began her recording career with the punk band Excuse 17 but blossomed with the alternative-rock outfit Sleater-Kinney. In fact, in 2007, Rolling Stone named her one of the “25 Most Underrated Guitarists of All Time.” Though Sleater-Kinney went on hiatus in 2006, Brownstein has kept on plucking as a member of the indie-rock quartet Wild Flag.
