What trends does Ed Ng see becoming more important in interior design?
I believe the design paradigm is shifting rapidly from being aesthetic driven to more user-experience driven — you ask questions like what kind of ambience or emotions would I like to provoke from this space? Whether it is serene or opulent, the design should accentuate and complement the experience.
I always tell my team not to think about design just being a beautiful perspective in our drawings but about the experience it creates for the user. From something as simple as a drawer, I will ask them a question such as what do you want to feel when you touch it? How do your fingers feel on the leather, the wood? Can you feel the lining inside? How deep is it?
