How does Katrina Markoff find the best foods when traveling?

I always do a little bit of research first, but you don’t’ learn everything beforehand. I think finding foodie-centric hotels is helpful because you can ask the staff questions about where the best cheese shop is located. Or I just go to the good restaurants and say, ‘Hey, I want to learn who’s making the best cheese, the best wine, etc.’ They always know somebody and it becomes a fun journey, like I’m on a quest to find out who makes the best of everything. I like to keep it open-ended, because if you preplan everything it’s kind of boring. Build in time to explore.
