Las Vegas may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think family vacation, but there’s more to the strip than casinos, nightclubs and “European” pools. Las Vegas has something for everyone, and that includes kids. From indoor amusement parks to exotic animal habitats and magic shows, Las Vegas has an ever-increasing array of attractions. And the best part? Many of them are free.
A family vacation to Las Vegas should start with an afternoon spent at Circus Circus. You’ll hardly notice the buzzing casino off the lobby once you catch sight of the Adventuredome, America’s largest indoor theme park, including the world’s only indoor double-loop roller coaster. The Adventuredome is housed beneath a five-and-a-half acre glass dome, ideal for escaping the midday desert heat. Circus Circus also offers an arcade, a miniature golf course and free circus performances where kids are invited onstage to learn a trick or two of their own.
For animal lovers (and Jaws fans), the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is a must-see when you’re in Las Vegas. Mandalay Bay’s stunning aquarium holds more than 2,000 animals, including 15 species of sharks and provides nearly 360-degree views into many of the tanks. Marine biologists are on hand to answer any questions you or your kids might have, and by the end, you might even learn something.
Las Vegas does have its sinful side (it didn’t earn the nickname Sin City for nothing), but with indoor and outdoor amusement rides, comedy shows, animal exhibits and theatrical performances, it’s easy to trade the adult-only madness for some wholesome family fun.
