Wine Lists
With great food comes great wine, and Las Vegas isn't short on either. Sin City's notable restaurants boast wine lists that are sometimes thousands of bottles deep, sourced from the far corners of the globe and from award-winning vineyards. Here are five of the top wine lists in Las Vegas:
Alex: It's hard to find anything that Alex at Wynn Las Vegas doesn't do well, and its wine list is no exception. Under the watchful eye of expert sommelier Paolo Barbieri, the 1,100-bottle wine cellar is a symphony of vintages from crisp Mumm de Cramant champagne to an impressive array of Burgundies. The wine list is all about France, but since when is that a bad thing?
Aureole: Want a bit of spectacle with your sauvignon blanc? Aureole at Mandalay Bay is unequaled in Las Vegas when it comes to a memorable glass of grapes, if only for the ordeal of ordering. A 42-foot glass tower at the center of the restaurant holds 9,865 bottles, and "wine angels" suspended from bungee cords quickly scale the skyscraper to fill orders. Chef Charlie Palmer says the idea came to him after watching Mission Impossible.
Delmonico Steakhouse: With more than 1,750 wine selections (and an inventory of more than 17,400 bottles), it's almost impossible to choose just one bottle of wine at the Venetian's Delmonico Steakhouse. Happily, the servers are as well versed in the restaurant's many wines as they are in the juicy, sizable steaks—let them guide you to the perfect bottle. The enormous list of wines-by-the-glass also makes it easy to taste a bevy of vintages in a single sitting.
Picasso: What pairs better with fine wine than good food and great conversation starters? Picasso at the Bellagio has you covered on all three counts: mouthwatering Mediterranean meals compliment a wine cellar bursting with 15,000 bottles (including more than 1,500 selections), while Picasso originals hanging on the wall offer a great view. Head sommelier Robert Smith showcases wines from only the finest European vineyards, including traditional picks from France and Spain as well as lesser-known bottles from Eastern Europe.
Fleur de Lys: An oenophile's dream, Fleur de Lys at the Mandalay Bay boasts a 12,000-bottle wine loft, with a staggering centerpiece of some 3,000 fresh-cut roses and a live DJ providing a sexy, soulful backdrop for wine sipping. Talk about romantic. Request a chair at the master's table overlooking the main dining room and you'll gain access to a private wine cellar.
