Whiteface Lodge

A luxurious lodge in Upstate New York
VERIFIED LUXURY
The Adirondacks region has its share of resorts, but Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa, built in Lake Placid in 2005, is a standout. No detail is overlooked at this family-friendly getaway, from its range of on-site amenities (skating rink, catch-and-release trout pond, bowling alley, movie theater, fitness center, game room, lean-tos) to its classic mountain-style architecture and décor (antler chandeliers, birch-bark details, deer heads and woodsy artwork).

Cozy common areas, such as Peak 47, are ideal for cocktails by a crackling fire and give the place a Great Camp house party vibe; on-site restaurant Kanu serves a farm-to-table, fine-dining menu in a grand space; and the Lodge’s elegant, state-of-the-art spa offers luxurious pampering, even its own spa cuisine.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • With its classic Adirondack architecture — sloped roofs, native stonework and peeled logs throughout — Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa has the appearance of a Gilded Age Great Camp. Large windows in suites and the Lake Placid hotel’s common areas exhibit the surrounding forest and peaks in the distance, with Whiteface Mountain hanging in the sky.
  • The luxury hotel is teeming with adventure all year round. In warm weather, visit the Canoe Club for water activities at Lake Placid. In colder months, hit the ice-skating rink, ski, ride a snowmobile, snowshoe or go dogsledding. Athletes will definitely want to check out the Olympic Sports Complex.
  • Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa is a mile or so from the village’s buzzing boutique-lined Main Street, a location that affords its guests privacy, plus space for the resort’s sprawling activity compound (tennis and platform courts, indoor/outdoor pool, hiking trails and skating rink).
  • The hotel’s intimate 8,000-square-foot spa blends the rustic beauty of its setting with a relaxing and serene ambiance for the perfect mountain escape.
  • Gather around the bonfire at the Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa each evening for fun family actives and s’mores.
Things to Know
  • Even with its rustic appearance, all amenities are modern, from the stainless appliances and granite counters in each suite’s kitchen to the flat-screen televisions, gas fireplaces and roomy jetted tubs.
  • A shuttle delivers you to the Upstate New York hotel’s private Canoe Club beach, where you can swim, sun or explore the waters of Lake Placid aboard the resort’s power boats, pontoons, Hacker-Craft or other watercraft.
  • While Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa is a year-round resort, its most popular seasons are summer (between the last weekend of July through Labor Day) and winter (December 26 through January 4 as well as winter school holidays).
The Rooms
  • Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa is a suite-only property, with 94 options that range from studios to two- and three-bedrooms and a palatial-sized Presidential suite.
  • All accommodations include a kitchen with stainless-steel appliances (stoves, small refrigerators, microwaves) and granite countertops, European-style washer/dryers, flat-screen TVs and Blu-ray players, slate floors, queen sleeper sofas and gas fireplaces.
  • Bathrooms in all suites are generously sized (some floor plans actually have multiple bathrooms); expect granite counters, slate tile, elegant fixtures and jetted or Jacuzzi tubs, some with separate shower.
  • Most suites also have porches or patios, affording stunning views of the Adirondack mountain skyline.
The Restaurants
  • Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa’s Kanu is a fine-dining, farm-to-table restaurant commandeered by executive chef Adam Bechard.
  • Peak 47 offers a more causal atmosphere for lighter fare and cocktails, with leather sofas, crackling fireplaces and a handsome bar. (Guests can sign up for wine tastings with the resort’s sommelier.)
  • Adjacent to the spa is a café that, by day, serves spa cuisine, but after-hours transforms into an ice-cream parlor.
  • In summer, the Lake Placid hotel’s Canoe Club Grill accommodates guests at the lakeside Canoe Club with burgers, hot dogs and ice cream sandwiches.
