A Balinese-inspired retreat in the Caribbean
8 Treatment Rooms
With world-class cuisine, spotless accommodations and azure waters, One&Only Ocean Club, Bahamas is a source for sensory overload. But of all the things that have a hand in causing a tropical trance, One&Only Spa might be the biggest culprit. If you could imagine a space of utter tranquility that’s Indonesian in its look and feel but Bahamian in just about everything else, you’re almost halfway to realizing what a visit here is like. In truth, the spa’s eight private treatment villas and 50-plus services are wholly therapeutic, taking you to a place of restoration that you won’t find on any map.
Even though you’re surrounded by swaying tropical plants and a stunning coastline, there are moments at One&Only when you’ll wonder where in the world you are. One of those occasions comes when a hotel attendant escorts you toward the spa. As you approach each villa, you’ll walk down a gravel pathway into a garden with a day bed and hydrotherapy tub. Bali actually serves as the inspiration for outdoor spaces and interiors. Teak massage tables, floating sinks that sit atop wood cabinetry and natural tones set a relaxing tone reminiscent of a secluded village on the coast of the Indian Ocean. After a detoxing massage or smoothie facial, the exhalation doesn’t have to stop. Soak in the aforementioned tub or rinse off in the waterfall shower connected to the room.
Before even stepping into your treatment room for an Elemis Aroma Stone Therapy (a tension-melting massage lasting 50 or 75 minutes) or Balinese Body Polish (an exfoliating ritual using orange, lime and other flavored scrubs), you get your first taste of the facility with the foot wash ritual, a symbolic gesture that takes place in the garden. When that concludes, do your best to will your body into the room for your pre-selected service. While the Dream spa treatment (a blissful mix of a detox, scalp and body massage and restoring wrap) comes highly recommended, the trained staff promises satisfaction through any massage, facial or salon service on the menu. Should you need more relaxation after that, linger a bit longer with a bathing ritual (milk and honey, detox or floral) or on the day bed with a cup of herbal tea.
The Other Treats
Though lounging at the beach and snoozing on hammocks are two of the most popular activities around One&Only Ocean Club, that’s not to say guests in need of a bit more movement are without options. For starters, the hotel provides guests with complimentary use of tennis racquets and bikes. There’s also a sparkling fitness center, which sits just a few hundred feet from the spa, that’s decked out in the latest Kinesis gym equipment. Yoga enthusiasts will be happy to know that the property offers one-hour beachfront classes as well as sessions on a deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a transformative view, one capable of taking your mind to distant places you once thought only a deep-tissue massage could.
