A Kauai tradition since 1916, this café has been a longtime source of wonderful baked goods. In a nondescript neighborhood of Lihue, one block over and parallel to Curio Highway (Hwy 56), this family-run operation shares a site with a rather plain motel. Four generations of the Oto family have operated the property, and such menu items as banana pancakes, macadamia nut cookies (the first in Hawaii), and oxtail soup are quite famous around the island. The immaculate dining room, with all-booth seating, is open for breakfast and lunch and then converted into a Japanese restaurant for dinner.
