About Truth or Consequences, New Mexico:
Formerly called Hot Springs, for the warm mineral springs, the town changed its name in 1950 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Ralph Edwards' radio program, "Truth or Consequences."
In the early 1500s, the Spanish Conquistadores came through this area, and legends of lost Spanish gold mines and treasures in the Caballo Mountains persist today. There are numerous ghost towns and old mining camps in the area. A Ranger District office of the Gila National Forest is located here.
