Windsor is located at the tip of a peninsula and is linked to Detroit, Michigan, by the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Because of its proximity to the United States, it is often referred to as the Ambassador City. Windsor is also known as the City of Roses for its many beautiful parks. The Sunken Gardens and Rose Gardens in Jackson Park boast more than 500 varieties of roses. Coventry Garden and Peace Fountain has the only fountain floating in international waters. Windsor is a cosmopolitan city, designated a bilingual-bicultural area because of the French influence so much in evidence. Windsor also has a symphony orchestra, theaters, a light opera company, art galleries, nightlife, and all the amenities of a large city. Within its boundaries are 900 acres (364 hectares) of parks, giving the city the charm of a rural environment. With easy access to lakes Erie and St. Clair and such pleasure troves as Pelee Island, it is also the major city in Canada's "Sun Parlor," Essex County. A mild climate and beautiful beaches make Windsor an excellent place to visit all year.
