Wooster claims to have had one of the first Christmas trees in America, introduced in 1847 by August Imgard, a young German immigrant. Disappointed with American Christmas, he cut down and decorated a spruce tree, which so pleased his neighbors that the custom spread throughout Ohio and the nation.
The town is in very productive farm country, with wheat, corn, potatoes, and many dairy farms. It also produces brass, paper, aluminum, roller bearings, brushes, rubber products, furniture, and other products.
