Field Evaluator (USA)

Forbes Travel Guide seeks a U.S.-based incognito hospitality field evaluator to work on its annual star ratings and Hospitality Solutions client evaluations. Since 1958, Forbes Travel Guide's professional team of evaluators has visited and rated hotels (and later restaurants and spas) across the globe, providing travelers with the best information on where to stay, dine, spa and sightsee.

The field evaluator will be responsible for gathering all information required to conduct and complete an anonymous evaluation of assigned hotel, restaurant and/or spas. The field evaluator must remain incognito and maintain a professional and appropriate demeanor on behalf of FTG. Though the ideal candidate will be based in the U.S., the position involves extensive domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Execute unannounced, incognito evaluations by objectively answering pre-determined standards and submitting report to home office; writing style of reports is straightforward, factual
  • Conduct post-stay debriefs with senior hotel management when required
  • Manage travel itinerary based on assignment; complete evaluations in cost-effective manner, following departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintain meticulous notes regarding property and logistics to assist evaluation planning department in future execution
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and home office to ensure timely and accurate reporting; regular communication required with Atlanta-based headquarters as well as international team members
  • Position requires consumption of food and drink as required for evaluation purposes
  • Evaluator must be located near major airport for cost-conscious, flexible travel

Skills Required

  • Hospitality experience (luxury hospitality experience preferred)
  • Strong writing skills required; experience or familiarity with luxury travel and writing about travel, spa, food, wine, style or design preferred
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Low profile; preferred candidates do not have prominent social media personalities or an online presence connecting them to the industry, including bylines. Chosen candidates will be required to maintain a low profile and possibly reduce their online profiles.
  • Ability to multitask and handle significant daily deadlines
  • Extremely organized, mature, self-motivated and independent worker
  • Detail orientated with a strong ability to keep meticulous records and prepare accurate reports both manually and through electronic channels
  • Well-travelled globally, experience traveling independently

Ideal candidates will be based in the Asia-Pacific region and have a knowledge of Mandarin and/or Cantonese. Qualified candidates in other regions with similar knowledge can be considered. Since 1958, Forbes Travel Guide's professional team of evaluators has visited and rated hotels (and later restaurants and spas) across the globe, providing travelers with the best information on where to stay, dine, spa and sightsee.
