This position is responsible for the timely delivery of reports to clients and operational requirements within the department, including supervising a talented editorial team.

  • Manage workflow process for evaluation reports with an exceptional eye for accuracy and detail; continually identify workflow improvements
  • Overall management of the editorial calendar and the expected components; monitoring several cross-departmental logistical calendars
  • Oversee and forecast team capacity needs vs. volume and department expenditures; assist Director, Evaluation Operations in creating/adhering to departmental budget
  • Overall management of remote and Atlanta-based Evaluation Reporting team. Communicate priorities, observe and mentor, provide guidelines for performance, set expectations and manage to them, build morale. Managegrievances/disciplinary procedures as needed.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance the performance of the Evaluation Reporting team and contribute to long-term success; manage/create helpful resources to assist in continual team improvement
  • Communicate regularly with Manager, Field Evaluations to assist in ongoing improvement of the Field Evaluator team
  • Work closely with multiple departments to assist in pre- and post-delivery inquiries relating to reports
  • Provide input for ongoing development of reporting product related to efficiency, quality and financial guidelines
  • Analyze report data as it pertains to archived information and ongoing client performance
  • Travel: Undertake incognito evaluations when deemed necessary both in market and globally as schedule allows

Field Evaluator (Asia)
Forbes Travel Guide seeks an incognito hospitality field evaluator with a strong knowledge of Asian locales, language and culture to work on its annual star ratings and Hospitality Solutions client evaluations. Ideal candidates will be based in the Asia-Pacific region and have a knowledge of Mandarin and/or Cantonese. Qualified candidates in other regions with similar knowledge can be considered. Since 1958, Forbes Travel Guide's professional team of evaluators has visited and rated hotels (andlater restaurants and spas) across the globe, providing travelers with the best information on where to stay, dine, spa and sightsee.

The field evaluator will be responsible for gathering all information required to conduct and complete an anonymous evaluation of assigned hotel, restaurant and/or spa as well as gathering information for and social media platforms. The field evaluator must remain incognito and maintain a professional and appropriate demeanor on behalf of FTG.

  • Evaluate properties by objectively answering pre-determined standards and submitting report to home office
  • Manage travel itinerary based on assignment; complete evaluations in cost-effective manner, following departmental policies and procedures
  • In conjunction with each unannounced evaluation report, submit photographs and information to be used by and social media outlets
  • Maintain meticulous notes regarding property and logistics to assist evaluation planning department in future execution
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and home office to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Execute a minimum of five trips/audits (each audit could contain any combination of hotel, restaurant, and spa evaluations) per month — depending on back-to-back and other assigned work. The typical expectation of travel is a minimum of 15 days per month. International/domestic travel may be required weekends/weekdays.
  • Respond to home office questions in a timely manner; communicate quickly during editorial workflow following submission of report
  • Availability and/or flexibility to travel as requested by FTG on a monthly basis
  • Attend meetings, typically teleconferenced, as required
  • Manage personal travel logistics in a budget-conscious manner, following departmental policies and procedures

Skills Required

  • Hospitality experience (luxury hospitality experience preferred)
  • Ability to multitask and handle significant daily deadlines
  • Extremely organized, mature, self-motivated and independent worker
  • Detail orientated with a strong ability to keep meticulous records and prepare accurate reports both manually and through electronic channels
  • Low profile; preferred candidates do not have blogs or other prominent social media personalities. Chosen candidates will be required to maintain a low profile and possibly reduce their online profiles
  • Strong communication skills
  • Exceptional English speaking/writing abilities; knowledge of Mandarin and/or Cantonese
  • Strong writing skills required; experience or familiarity with luxury travel and writing about travel, spa, food, wine, style or design preferred
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Technologically proficient
  • Position requires consumption of food and drink as required for evaluation purposes
  • Evaluator must be located near major airport for cost-conscious, flexible travel
